Hue is located on the country's central coast. The area has variety
sites of outstanding natural beauty. The average temperature is about
25 degrees. The area is also notorious for its torrential rains, which
can pour unabated for week. The beauty of the area led it to be chosen
as the capital by the kings of Nguyen dynasty. It was recently
recognized as an Unesco wold heritage site.
ROYAL TOMBS
Often built when the ruling king was still alive, so they ended up
looking more like miniature palaces than simple memorials. Hue has
eight notable royal tombs to the southeast of the former citadel. The
most outstanding are Gia Long is 16km from the city; Minh Mang Tomb,
covering an area of 18ha, 12km from Hue; Tu Duc Tomb is 8km away; Khai
Dinh tomb is 10km from Hue.
THIEN MU PAGODA
This pagoda was built in the 14th century, is situated on Ha Khe
hillock area near the Perfume River and also known as Linh Mu Pagoda,
Thien Mu pagoda is one of the most beautiful and ancient architectural
structures for worship in Hue. The most striking feature of the pagoda
is Phuoc Duyen Tower, the tower was built by Thieu Tri in 1844 and has
become the unofficial symbol of Hue.
ANCIENT CITADEL
The first king of the Nguyen dynasty, Gia Long, began construction of
the complex in 1805. The present citadel, including Imperial
Enclosure, Forbidden purple City, Noon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace, the
Temple, nine Dynastic Urns, Hien Lam Cac and Cung That, occupies an
area of 5.2 sq km on the north bank of the Perfume River.
BACH MA NATIONAL PARK
Known as the Dalat of central Vietnam, is 50km south of Hue. The park
covers 220 sq km and is home to many rare plants and animals.
CANH DUONG BEACH
60km from Hue, this crescent shaped 8km beach is the most beautiful in
the region. Its sand is white and soft and there is usually a mild
breeze, making it a top spot for windsurfing and sailing.
LANG CO BEACH
70km south of the city, its shore sand is very fine, its descends
towards the sea sloping very gently, so it is convenient for tourists
of all ages coming here for seabathing. |
