The Taipei County government has established museums of tea culture, pottery and ceramics, and other sites to help preserve the memory of the common history and culture. Taipei County is rich in cultural resources. It's a major cultural county that hosts a rich variety of cultural activities. Come! Join us as we trace our cultural roots.The confluence of the Tamshui, Hsintien and Keelung Rivers gave rise to Taipei County, which expanded gradually inland from the smallish river mouth to achieve its present scope. The meeting ground of the rivers stretches away in a scene of grandeur as the seashore, its terrain carved out by the hand of time, faces off with the low mountains standing peacefully in the distance of Taipei County.


FOREST PLEASURE GROUND

  • Man Yueh Yuan Forest Recreational Park
    Historical Background : Man Yueh Yuan Park is famous for its waterfalls. The special geography has helped for spectacular waterfalls in the park. The hills and mountains are of different heights, altitude ranging from 300 to 1700 meters. Flora and fauna in the park are diversified and there are abundant birds here. In addition, along the Na Tze Rivr, there are groups of butterflies. Hikers can enjoy the forests, watch the birds, appreciate the waterfalls in the park.
    Cultural Highlights : Man Yueh Yuan Park has abundant cryptomeria trees, which was introduced from Japan in 1896. It is reported that the trees are good for health, especially for respiratory tract. There is a tour track as long as 1,210 meters, along which visitors can appreciate the maple leaves and beautiful birds. There are 16 guide boards, explaining the natural environment in Man Yueh Yuan Park.

     

  • Neidong Forest Recreational Park
    Historical Background : Nei Tung Forest Park was established in 1984. It is located in Wulai, Taipei, and is also known as Wa Ku. It has the best conserved ecology in northern Taipei. The magnificent mountainous scenery and canyons are connected with Wulai. There are many waterfalls in the park and the most famous is Hsin Hsien Waterfall, which has 3 levels. Along the tour track, visitors can enjoy the dense forests, the birds and the butterflies. Flora and fauna in the park are conserved very well. In addition, the park has different views in different times of the year and is worthy to visit.
    Cultural Highlights : Nan Shi River runs across the Nei Tung Forest Park and in the south there is Nei Tung River. The rivers form many waterfalls in the park. The most famous is the 3-level Hsin Hsien Waterfall, which presents a grand spectacle. There are camping sites and barbeque sites near the waterfall. The rail-cart, which was used for transporting timber, is now a tourist attraction. The distance between Lan Sheng Bridge to Wulai Waterfall is 1.3 km and it takes about 6~7 minutes on a rail-cart to finish the trip.

     

  • Wulai
    Wulai is a famous mountain village in northern Taiwan and is located in water reservation area. Residents are most aboriginal people (Tai Ya Tribe). There are high mountains along the intersection of Nanshi Creek and Tunho Creek. Beautiful scenery is formed by the high mountains and running rivers. The place is famous for hot springs, trail train, waterfalls and Yushian Amusement Park. It is said that Wulai is a term used by Tai Ya Tribe. It means hot spring. Thus, the hot springs here are acclaimed. The quality of hot springs is carbonic acid springs with minor base. The hot springs are clear, transparent, colorless, and odorless. Hot spring spa is effective in healing dermatitis. The famous Wulai Waterfall is about 80 meters high. It is magnificent like a white silk cloth coming down from the sky. In addition, the sightseeing trail train is part of the uniqueness of Wulai. Trail train used to be for transportation of lumber but now it is for tourists' pleasure. The aboriginal culture center across Wulai Waterfall is a remodeled museum of aboriginal folk art. It introduces the aboriginal culture, customs and habits of Tai Ya Tribe and demonstrates the historical artifacts. The highlight of the visit to the center is the singing and dancing show of aboriginal people. One visiting Wulai would feel like entering into Shangri-La. It is fairies? land and a best place for recreation.
