Experience the
complex hybrid world of the Peranakans - a unique culture forged
between the Chinese, Malay and European worlds. The Peranakan
Legacy showcases the rich material heritage of the Peranakans
from the Straits Settlements and the Indonesian Archipelago.
Visitors will find dedicated displays of the textile, beading,
silverwork, porcelain, betel-chewing and jewellery traditions of
the Peranakans. Among the highlights will be a display of the
museum's renowned batik, embroidery and beadwork collections and
a chance to view exquisite silver and porcelain pieces from the
holdings of the Mariette Collections; a major collection of
Peranakan art.

This will be
the second consecutive year that this 3-month long annual
outdoor sculpture exhibition is held at the One Fullerton
Waterfront Promenade - stretching from the Clifford Pier end, to
the Merlion Park. Featuring innovative sculptures by Asian
artists, the exhibition aims to bring art closer to the public,
and to help raise the awareness and appreciation of contemporary
Asian sculpture in Singapore. Reborn Rejoice Rejuvenate 2003
will showcase the works of 4 young artists, Victor Tan,
Saraswati Gramich, Khiew Huay Chian and Chng Nai Wee, along this
increasingly vibrant arts belt. As part of this event,
iPreciation will also have a month-long exhibition of sculptor
Victor Tan's latest stainless steel wire works in its new
gallery located in the Fullerton Hotel Shopping Arcade.

as exploratory works and more. These maestros continue to
surpass the high standards in symphonic music. An unforgettable
evening of stirring Russian music beckons. The prodigious
violinist Ilya Gringolts, just 20 year old and a Deutsche
Grammophon and BIS artist, is the soloist in Prokofiev's First
Violin Concerto, a brilliant work that showcases the Russian
composer's genius in combining lyricism, dissonance and fantasy.
The first prize winner of the 1998 International Paganini Violin
Competition will no doubt dazzle with his soaring and thrilling
tone, a highlight of this year's Prokofiev Anniversary
celebrations. Daniel Hege, Music Director of the Syracuse
Symphony Orchestra, also conducts Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony,
the highly passionate first fruits of the composer's
relationship with his patron, Nadezhda von Meck, and deemed by
the composer as his greatest work. The evening commences with
Shostakovich's colourful and stirring Festive Overture. |

It's festive season
of the year and what better way to celebrate than to take part
in Dance India, Taste India! Proudly organised by the Temple of
Fine Arts, Dance India, Taste India ("DITI") is a major
week-long cultural festival set to increase awareness amongst
Singaporeans and foreigners of the rich cultural heritage of
India. A main feature of DITI will be the dances and musical
performances by invited artistes from India, local arts groups
and Temple of Fine Arts International. There will also be
exhibition and demonstrations of how artifacts are made,
including sculpting soapstones, saree weaving and bangle making.
For food lovers, DITI features vegetarian cuisines from the
various states of India. There will also be demonstrations and
workshops featuring skills such as mehendi, kolam drawing, and
yoga. Come to one of these workshops and try your hand at an
ancient skill that has been passed down through generations.
