“seondol” sticking out. There is a lighthouse at the end of
Seopjikoji, and there are stonewalls along the road to block the

Seongeup Folk Village
Address :
Seongeup-ri, Pyoseon-myeon, Namjeju-gun, Jeju-do
Description :
Located at
the foot of Mt. Halla, Seongeup Folk village has perfectly preserved
Korean tradition. Its way of life is protected, as it has been
designated a Folk Village because of the vast amount of cultural
property here. There are many cultural properties such as
residential houses, Confucian shrines and schools, ancient
government offices, stone statues, millstones (run by horse or ox),
fortress ruins, stone monuments, and cultural assets such as folk
plays, native foods, local folk craftsmanship, and the local dialect
are handed down to this day. Several-hundred-year-old zelkova trees
and nettle trees are in the middle of the village, both of which are
designated as natural monuments. As you wander around here and
become immersed in the atmosphere, you will feel like you have
traveled back in time. It is a popular place for foreigners because
they can experience the unique native culture of Korea. Seongeup
Folk Village is located on Jeju-do Island, which allows it to
display the unique residential culture of the island, which is shown
by the seemingly poorly made windscreen stone wall (black lava
rock), the straight but curvy Ollae (narrow alley), built that way
to block the wind, and the stone statues which have become a prime
feature of the landscape. The local black-haired pigs and tongsi
(pig sty / bathroom) are very well known, especially as indigenous
products. The local pigs, which feed on human feces, are very
nutritious and famous for their great tasting meat. These are
traditions that cannot be seen elsewhere today, making the Folk
Village a novel experience.

taken off and thrown away, which then became Mt. Sanbangsan. The
myth describes how unlike other mountains on Jejudo Island, this
mountain does not have a crater. The 5m-high rock cave at the cliff
on the southwest side of the mountain was originally called
Sanbanggul Cave, but it is called a temple now because it possesses
a Buddhist statue. This is where monk Hye-Il (964-1053) had lived
during the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392) Inside the cave, you can see
Marado Island and the Dragon Head Coast. You can also see small
ponds being made by the water drops that fall from the ceiling all
through the year. The plant zone on a cliff of Mt. Sanbangsan is
also designated as a natural monument. It is the only place on
Jejudo Island where island boxwoods grow. On the Dragon Head Coast
