Located in the center of
Korea, Daejeon is one of the largest cities. It is a major junction
for train lines and expressways. Daejeon is a city of science and
education with Daedeok Science Town and Daejeon Expo Park. Yuseong Hot

Daecheongho Lake

Description :
Daecheongho Lake is the third largest artificial lake in Korea,
and the name comes from Daejeon’s “Dae” and Cheongwon-gun’s “Cheong”.
The project began in 1975 and finished in 1980, and there is about
1,5 Billion tons of water in the lake that provide water to the
people in the Daejeon and Cheongju areas. Daecheongho Lake is the
result of damming the Geumgang River, and because it is such a huge
lake, it functions as a source of water supply for the whole region.
Daecheongho Lake is famous for its clear water, the reflections of
the mountain peaks on it, and the morning mist. Mt. Yasan is right
by the lake, and create a beautiful scenery together. The mist that
comes up in the morning on the water is very romantic, and during
the day the blue sky and the white clouds bring on a different sense
of harmony. If you follow the water, you can see a thick forest
tunnel, and it is very elegant looking. Daecheongho Lake is also
famous for its winter Hobandoro, and if you go up to the observation
tower on the dam, you can enjoy the scenery even more. At the Dam
Promotion office, you can learn about the daily operation of the
dam, and also view multimedia presentations, aquariums and other
interesting things. Many birds come in their season and nest at
Daecheongho Lake. In the summer you can see snowy heron flying low
and catching fish here. Because the scenery are so beautiful here,
the lake is known as one of Daejeon’s most beautiful areas.
Directions :
From Sintanjin Station, take City Bus No. 730 and get off at
Daecheongho Lake bus stop.
From Daejeon Station, take City Bus No. 621 and get off at
Daecheongho Lake bus stop.

Yuseong Hot Springs

Description :
Yuseong Hot
Springs is located at the center of Daejeon. The hot spring is known
to be effective in countering many kinds of maladies. The water here
contains alkaline minerals such as calcium, and potassium, sulphur,
carbonic acid, silicic acid and radium. An especially high
concentration of radium is found here. Such alkaline hot springs are
known to be good for treating neuralgia and geriatric diseases.
Nearby are large accommodations with many convenient facilities,
which make it easy to visit here while touring. Yuseong Hot Springs
has long been associated with cranes. During the final days of
Baekje Kingdom, a man who was the only son and heir of a family for
seven generations was seriously wounded during a war with Silla. His
mother worried greatly over her son’s wounds. One day she saw a
crane with a wounded wing dip itself into a hot spring in the midst
of snow covered ground and healed. She took her son there and his
wound was healed as well so the legend goes. Perhaps because of this
legend, the Yuseong Hot Springs is famous for its healing
properties.

Hyundai Gallery

Description :
Hyundai
Gallery is located in the heart of Daejeon. The City Hall, Court of
Law, and Police Station etc. are some of the important
establishments concentrated in the area. The Exhibit Hall on the B1
floor of Hyundai Gallery is 70 Pyeong (1 pyeong = 3.3 square
meters), and is the preferred locale for talented artists for
exhibiting their work. Private invitation exhibitions are usually
held. The exhibited works are ones that reflect modern art trends,
and show the art world of progressive artists. The lighting is very
impressive, and highlights the exhibited items beautifully. The
simplicity of its design allows you to focus on and enjoy the
artwork even more. There is a historic art gallery near the Hyundai
Gallery, and in Daejeon is the third largest lake in Korea called
Daecheongho Lake. If you want to enjoy the tranquil beauty of a
large lake, head over to this place. The water is very clean, and is
host to many different types of fishes.

National Science Museum

Description :
The National
Science Museum is a scientific culture facility which studies and
exhibits various scientific materials. At its center is the
Astronomical Hall, which is the largest dome in Korea. From here you
can vividly see the phenomenon of the celestial sphere and the human
development of space. It also has the only world-class space theater
in Korea. The 242 seats are available on a first-come first-serve
basis. It can recreate the appearance of a night sky, the highlight
being the view of the starlight at the planetarium. The Astrovision
is also a special visual device, giving a magnificent and realistic
view of space development. There are exhibits featuring about 4000
items based on nature and natural science at the Permanent Exhibit
Hall. There are also exhibit halls featuring Korean nature, weapons,
and folk musical instruments. You can see the stages of collecting
energy from nature, and its use in transportation. Outside the Hall
is Cheomseongdae, a weather evaluating machine from the Goryeo
period, models of plant-eating dinosaurs, and a steam engine. The
exhibits help to easily understand the theories of science, and the
wonders of nature. The museum has a movie theater. Science movies
and other excellent movies are shown at 11am and 2pm every day, and
the seating can accommodate 776 people.
